The Shinnecock Star was SHINING
this morning for the Noreast Fluke Bucktailing Seminar!!
Lots of fluke action, Captain John kept us on the fish as usual. Captain Neil
gave the lowdown on rods, and ReelTeaser shared the ins and outs of bucktails
and teasers. All in all, the instructive part of the seminar was well stated
and very informative, especially for me since I had never bucktailed before!
Special thanks to ReelTeaser, who loaned me a rod and reel when mine proved to
be too light. Thanks to his kindness, I was able to boat 2 keepers on this
trip.

5/11/2007 report
by Joe
Better than yesterday for me! Went out east with my
brother to fish with Captain John for fluke. The
bonus was the distinct pleasure to fish with the
great Captain Neil F. We had 9 fares. Captain John
took us over to the Greenlawns area and in front of
Claudios in Greenport. We had a slow steady stream
of fish for most of the day. However, mostly shorts
but we got our fair share of keepers among us. Not
sure how many we ended up with. I'll leave that to
Captain John to post, but among the fluke we also
scored some blusfish and a seabass. My talley was 4
shorts and 2 keepers. The larger of the two in the
picture below was approx 4 lbs. Pool fish was
slightly larger. My brother was frustrated with 7
shorts. It's tough landing 18" and 19" inch fluke
only to throw them back. My shorts were all caught
on a chartruse set up. I then switched over to pink
and picked up the 2 keepers. The larger of the two
was caught by Claudios. We lost the drift 2/3rds of
the way through, but Captain John power drifted to
keep the fish motivated. Another beautiful day
weather wise once the fog burned off. In one of the
pictures you can see some of the other keepers in
the background.

What a great day to be on the Shinnecock Star!
The ocean was calm, drifting with a power assist
sometimes was good, about 12 anglers so there was
plenty of room and we had action.
Oh how it hurts to throw back 19+" fluke. About 12
fluke hit the kooler with the pool fluke at 7 lb,
nice fish.
Was great to see all you guys again, also Deena and
Capt John.
This is the time of the year I try to catch my big
dream fish soI fished a big rig for almost 5 hours.
No such luck today. BUBBA is still out there
hiding on me. Finally I switched to my hi/lo teaser
set up and during the last hour boated 5 very nice
fluke but no keepers for me. Still a great day for
me.
